The Neubauer Lab

The Neubauer Lab is located at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, within the Unit of Medical Biochemistry in the Department of Biological Sciences and Pathobiology.

The Neubauer group studies cellular signaling pathways, particularly the role of the transcription factor STAT5B, in processes that shape normal hematopoiesis as well as mechanisms that contribute to the pathogenesis of hematopoietic cancers.

Our group has two main research foci: On the one hand, we explore molecular mechanisms driving disease pathogenesis and tumor microenvironment crosstalk in rare and aggressive T-cell lymphomas, in order to identify and test new therapeutic targets for these diseases. In addition, we examine molecular mechanisms driving sex biases in hematopoiesis and in cells of the immune system, which are relevant for the sex-specific differences observed in various health and disease contexts, including blood cancers. Our work aims to bridge mechanistic research in cell and tumor biology towards translational outcomes, identifying new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for precision medicine approaches.
