Bachelor Student Graduation
Paula Gratzl successfully defended her bachelor thesis work, achieving a well deserved high distinction (“sehr gut”) for her presentation on novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies in T-ALL. During her 3-month stay in the lab, her hard-work and motivation resulted in some very interesting findings, which will contribute towards an ongoing project. New Study Published in HemaSphere
A new study from the Neubauer lab, led by PhD student Myint Myat Khine Aung, has been published as a letter in HemaSphere. In this work, we developed oncogenic STAT5B–driven γδ T‑cell lymphoma cell lines and an allograft mouse model that recapitulate key features of hepatosplenic T‑cell lymphoma (HSTL). Using these models and primary patient samples, we found that the JAK1/2/3 inhibitor upadacitinib potently suppresses tumor cell growth, reduces disease burden in vivo, and selectively kills STAT5B‑mutant HSTL cells at nanomolar doses. In contrast, ruxolitinib showed limited activity, underscoring meaningful differences among JAK inhibitors. The study supports biomarker‑guided clinical testing of upadacitinib in HSTL, with STAT5B mutation and STAT5 activity as candidate predictors of response. You can read the article here. First In-Person ImmuneT-ME Consortium Meeting
The ImmuneT-ME consortium, involving 9 partners from across Europe, held their first in-person meeting on Feb 25-26th in Cologne, Germany. The meeting, focused on sharing the latest progress in interrogating the immune-microenvironment of T-cell malignancies, was attended by project leader Heidi Neubauer and PhD student Sophie Pfalz-Kraupp. We are looking forward to seeing the continued success of this network!

Travel Grant
PhD student Myint Myat Khine Aung was awarded an EHA-JSH Travel Grant to attend the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Hematology in Kobe, Japan. She was also selected to give an oral presentation at the meeting about her work on developing preclinical models and identifying novel targeted therapies for rare, aggresive T-cell cancer. Congratulations Myint!
EHA Advanced Research Grant
Heidi Neubauer was awarded a European Hematology Association (EHA) Advanced Research Grant to further the group’s work on understanding mechanisms governing sex biases in hematopoiesis. The award was presented at the 2025 EHA Congress in Milan, Italy. Congratulations!
