RIANA: Viennese start-up develops novel, precise anti-cancer drugs
We are delighted to announce the incorporation of RIANA Therapeutics GmbH, a biotech startup focused on developing novel anti-cancer treatments. RIANA Therapeutics is a spinoff from Vetmeduni, devoted to discovering and developing innovative medicines. RIANA founders Richard Moriggl, Oliver Szolar, VetWidi, and Anna Orlova are very enthusiastic about committing to improving treatments for cancer patients. We are currently in the process of setting up research and development operations in Vienna and will keep you updated.

Richard Moriggl and Anna Orlova RIANA has its origins in 2018, when Anna Orlova and Richard Moriggl presented their promising research project “STAT5-inhibitors: Targeting STAT5 oligomerization in leukemia” at Vetmeduni’s VetIdeas Challenge. This was followed by a spin-off fellowship from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), which enabled Anna Orlova to generate further data on her project.

Congratulation from the whole lab on this amazing accomplishment!

Circular Lab of the Future Workshop
We learned a lot at the “Circular Lab of the Future” workshop organized by Green Labs Austria, Uni Wien and Merck yesterday.

Moriggl Lab and Grebien Lab at the “Circular Lab of the Future” workshop We contributed to the workshop by collecting, recording and sorting all plastic material we used in a week in our lab. This was normalized by the number of scientists working and hours spend in the lab (a big thanks goes out to our PhD student Marie who did most of the organization, motivation and sorting). By visualizing how much plastic we use in our daily lab life, the topic of recycling became even more relevant for us.

Our poster at the poster exhibition Thanks for inviting us and for starting this initiative!
