  • Circular Lab of the Future Workshop

Circular Lab of the Future Workshop

We learned a lot at the “Circular Lab of the Future” workshop organized by Green Labs Austria, Uni Wien and Merck yesterday.

Moriggl Lab and Grebien Lab at the “Circular Lab of the Future” workshop

We contributed to the workshop by collecting, recording and sorting all plastic material we used in a week in our lab. This was normalized by the number of scientists working and hours spend in the lab (a big thanks goes out to our PhD student Marie who did most of the organization, motivation and sorting). By visualizing how much plastic we use in our daily lab life, the topic of recycling became even more relevant for us.

Thanks for inviting us and for starting this initiative!

  • Wachaumarathon 2022

A determined team from the Moriggl lab participated in this year’s Relay-Wachaumarathon. We finished with a time of 3 hours and 42 minutes and are looking forward to beating the record next year.

  • First pick-up for recycling!

Today Peter from helfenstattwegwerfen.at picked up our first collected waste for recycling . Together with our colleagues from the Grebien lab we managed to gather 42kg of plastic waste!

Peter kindly took the time to explain what exactly happens to the plastic, how it is separated, washed and shredded, to be eventually re-used. We hope to motivate more and more labs @Vetmeduni and other universities in Vienna to join us for a more sustainable research!

  • Hiking trip to the Admonter Haus with our colleagues from the Grebien lab

Hiking trip to the Admonter Haus with our colleagues from the Grebien lab

After a long break from in-person social and team building activities we finally gathered for a 3 day hiking adventure around the Admonter Haus in the beautiful Gesäuse in Styria. Together with our friends from the Grebien lab we met early on Sunday morning and embarked on a train journey followed by a scenic hiking route up to the hut.

Our 3 days were filled with exciting conversations about science, enjoyable hikes, climbing adventures and good food (!). We hope that we can repeat this successful lab outing next summer.

Thank you all for this great experience.

  • Skiing-Trip / Farewell Katrin

To say farewell to one of our amazing Master students (Katrin Sommer), some of us spent a wonderful day skiing at Hochkar. Just like her Master thesis defense, Katrin rocked her first skiing lesson here in Austria. We will miss you as a part of the lab, Katrin!
